Gardaí have arrested a teenager in connection to a botched armed robbery at a shop in Longford town, the Leader can reveal.
Detectives arrested the juvenile on Sunday, the Leader understands and held him overnight for questioning following the incident on June 4.
During that incident, a masked male raider entered the retail outlet where he allegedly threatened staff with a knife after making a demand for money.
It is understood the man fled the store on foot empty-handed a short time later on a bicycle.
It’s believed the teenager, though not originally from Longford, resides locally.
A garda spokesperson confirmed gardaí released the teenager from custody the following day.
A file will now be compiled for the Gardaí’s Youth Diversion Programme.
“Gardaí received a report of an incident of robbery that occurred at approximately 11:10am on Sunday, 4th of June 2023 on Dublin Street in Longford Town,” said a garda spokesperson.
“A male youth aged in his teens was arrested in relation to this incident. He has since been released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme.”
