Tributes are being paid to Josephine Farrell, the mother of Fine Gael county councillor Gerald Farrell, who passed away over the weekend.

Mrs Farrell, who was the wife of former long serving county councillor Adie Farrell, died peacefully at Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital on Saturday.

Fine Gael group leader Cllr Colm Murray said details surrounding her passing had been felt far and wide

“On behalf of the Fine Gael party, I would like to take this opportunity to pass on our deepest condolences to Adie, Gerald and Lorraine,” Cllr Murray said.

“She was obviously well known in the greater Lanesboro area, Ballyleague and into Roscommon.

“She was always known to be a lady and familiar face behind the bar and shop and her loss is a huge loss to the Farrell family.”

The late Mrs Farrell’s funeral mass takes place today (Wednesday) at 12 noon followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium Cavan.

A death notice on RIP.ie read: “Josephine Farrell (nee Dargan) Aughamore, Lanesboro, Longford and formerly of Griffinstown, Westmeath, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the wonderful care of the staff of Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar on the 20th May 2023.

“Predeceased by her parents Elizabeth & Michael and brother Eddie.”

The Lanesboro woman will be missed by her husband Adie and beloved children Lorraine and Gerald, grandson Oisin, sister Doreen, Lorraine’s partner Alan, daughter in law Sarah, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephew, cousins, relatives and friends.
