Clonguish GAA club held a dinner dance in The Landmark Hotel on Saturday night last. With 300 people in attendance, it was an enjoyable get together for all strands of our club. Pride of place went to the Clonguish team of 1972 and ‘73, who won the senior championship both of those years. Many of that team were present on the night to be honoured. It was wonderful to see a team from this highly successful era for the club being honoured.

Following an address from Club Chairman Ronan Sweeney, MC for the night was Liam Madden. Ronan paid tribute to Gerard Moore and Anne Watters for their hard work in organising the dinner dance.

County Vice-Chairperson Derek Fahy was present on behalf of the County Board. Chairperson Albert Cooney was unable to attend due to a family bereavement.

In his speech, Derek spoke about the team of 1972/73 and the success they brought to the club. He also thanked two of our clubmen who have taken the county U-20 and minor management roles respectively, Ciaran Carey and Tony Devlin.

The first of the 2022 winners to be honoured were the hurlers, county senior champions. They brought the Duignan Cup back to the club last year and they were warmly received on the night.

The ladies were also brought up on the stage, for a number of successes in recent years, including winning the prestigious Paidi O’Se tournament in Kerry. Our U-21’s and minors, both county champions, were also honoured.

Paul Barden was on hand to help with the presentations.

Anne Watters was given a presentation on behalf of the ladies club, recognising her hard work during the year.

The ladies club also honoured Michael Mulvey, who has been involved with ladies football in the parish for 40 years. This was a richly deserved honour, well done Michael.

Everyone in the club is grateful to Ronan, Gerard and Anne for their hard work in organising this night.
