A Longford pensioner who lost his life over the Christmas period two weeks after being involved in a road crash in county Westmeath has been described as an “absolute gentleman”.

Frank Eivers (pictured), of Bracklin, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford passed away at Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital last Tuesday (December 27).

The much loved and well respected farmer had been rushed to hospital 12 days earlier after the car in which he was driving and the sole occupant of collided with an articulated truck on the N4 in Rathowen.

Tragically, Frank, who was in his 70s, failed to recover from his injuries sustained in the crash, sparking a flood of heart-rending tributes both online and at his funeral mass last Friday.

“Frank was a farmer and was extremely well got at the local marts down through the years,” said Cllr Paul Ross.

“He was a very quiet, unassuming man and an absolute gentleman.”
