Leinster Club Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final
Garrycastle (Westmeath) . . . . . . 4 – 11 Longford Slashers . . . . . 1 – 6
Garrycastle knocked Longford Slashers out of the Leinster Club Senior Football Championship with the wide margin of 14 points separating the sides at the end of the quarter-final clash at Cusack Park, Mullingar on Sunday.
Slashers were in serious trouble at half-time, at which stage the superior Westmeath champions had established a commanding 2-7 to 0-4 advantage with James Dolan getting both goals for the Athlone outfit.
The Longford champions tried hard to get back into the game against the wind in the second half and while a well-taken goal from substitute Martin Nevin gave them a glimmer of hope as the gap was gradually closed to five points, Garrycastle grabbed another couple of goals in the closing stages of the game to run out most emphatic winners.
