Carrickedmond came so close in their quest to make further progress in the Ladies Football Leinster Intermediate Club Championship.
O’Dwyers (Dublin) . . . 1-9 Carrickedmond . . . 2-5
Building on their fine win away to Kildare opponents Kill in the opening round the previous week, the Carrick girls faced a tough task against the Dublin champions O’Dwyers (Balbriggan) at Michael Moran Park on Saturday last.
But there was little separating the sides in a tight contest and a surprise home win was looking likely when Katie Crawford scored a cracking goal in the closing stages.
With the advantage of the breeze, O’Dwyers kept their composure to land a couple of late points and eventually came out on top by the minimum of margins to clinch a place in the semi-finals
Carrickedmond gave it their best shot with Una Mulligan scoring a super goal in the first half, not long after O’Dwyers found the back of the net.
A terrific point from Lauren McGuire on the stroke of half-time left the home side trailing by 1-4 to 1-3 at the break and the ding-dong battle continued on the changeover with O’Dwyers emerging victorious.
