The wise man who guided his native Longford to a remarkable Leinster minor football championship success this year has been appointed a senior selector.
Enda McGahern from Colmcille, who is now affiliated to the Fr Manning Gaels club, will work alongside the new Longford senior football supremo Mike Solan.
The former All-Ireland U-21 winning manager with Mayo was in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park last weekend to watch Abbeylara and Colmcille in action in the county SFC final which ended in a draw with the replay fixed for this Sunday.
Solan from Ballaghaderreen will also be joined on the Longford management team by fellow Mayo native Michael Moyles, the former county footballer who coached the Mayo ladies football squad.
The target for Solan, McGahern and Moyles is obviously promotion from Division 4 of the National League in 2025 with fixtures against Limerick, Wicklow, Wexford, Tipperary, Carlow, London and Waterford.
