After playing 13 seasons with Longford, the versatile Killoe Emmet Og footballer Michael Quinn has announced his inter-county retirement.

34-year-old Quinn made 139 appearances for the Longford seniors and his last match in the county colours was in the heavy defeat against Kildare in the Tailteann Cup Round 1 clash at Manguard Park in Newbridge back in May.

Injury prevented Michael from playing any part in the other group stage games against Leitrim and Waterford in the Tier 2 Championship this year.

One of the highlights of his excellent GAA career was the great honour to represent Ireland against Australia in the International Rules Series.

After playing Australian Rules Football with Essendon from 2008 to 2011, Quinn returned home and made his debut for Longford in 2012. He went on to collect a National League Division 3 medal following the win over Wexford in the final at Croke Park in that same season and also received an All-Star nomination that year.

Injury ruled him out of Killoe’s opening round victory against Colmcille in the 2024 Longford Senior Football Championship at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Tuesday night but the mighty Quinn will be back in Connolly Cup action for his club when he is fully fit.

On Friday last, Michael Quinn posted on social media platform X: "On to the next chapter. 13 good years."

Gaelic Players Association CEO Tom Parsons also posted a message in recognition of Quinn's achievements, saying: "Congrats Mickey Quinn, class player, leader and role model for Longford GAA and as a player rep for the (GPA)."
