Longford ladies football senior manager Pat Tiernan will be hoping for a change of fortune in the 2024 Leinster Junior Championship with the opening fixture in the group stage away to Kilkenny on Sunday next, throw-in 2pm

MW Hire Training Centre in Dunmore is the venue for the Round 1 clash and Longford are strongly fancied to win with some comfort after warming up with a very useful challenge against Intermediate opponents Westmeath.

In the aftermath of the disappointment of failing to make it through to the National League Division 4 semi-finals this season, Longford will be determined to make amends in the championship with a place in the Leinster Junior final the obvious objective.

While beating Kilkenny should not be a problem, there are much tougher games to come at home to the surprise Division 4 league champions Carlow on Sunday April 28 and then away against Louth the following weekend.

The top two teams in the round-robin group will meet in the Leinster Junior final on May 18/19 in the build-up to the All-Ireland Junior Championship.

Both Longford and Louth were relegated from the Intermediate grade last year and the target for them is clearly the quest for an immediate return to the second tier championship.

The Longford line-out in the heavy defeat against Leitrim in the last round of the NFL on Sunday March 3:
