Longford senior hurling manager Adrian Moran
The Longford senior hurlers start their 2024 championship campaign with a home fixture against Lancashire in the Lory Meagher Cup at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park this Saturday, throw-in 2pm.
After suffering the disappointment of defeat against the eventual Division 3B champions Warwickshire in the league semi-final this season, Longford are expected to be back to near full strength for the competition that really matters.
It looks like a wide open affair in the quest for a Croke Park appearance in the 2024 Lory Meagher Cup final but watch out for Cavan who were very competitive at a higher level in the NHL Division 3A, winning three of their five fixtures against Armagh, Louth and Monaghan.
Longford will need to start with a victory over Lancashire this weekend and four more group stage games will follow v Warwickshire (away), Leitrim (home), Cavan (away) and Fermanagh (home).
County minor footballers meet Laois
The curtain-raiser to the Longford v Lancashire game is the meeting of Longford and Laois in the remaining group fixture in the Leinster Minor (U-17) Football Championship, throw-in 12 noon.
After producing a magnificent display to score a shock win over Dublin in the Round 2 clash at Allen Park last week, Enda McGahern’s side are through to the semi-final while Laois are eliminated so there is nothing at stake in this game.
