Clonguish gained considerable consolation for the disappointment of the defeat against Longford Slashers in the recent ladies football senior championship final in holding out for a narrow win over Killoe in the ‘B’ title decider at Michael Fay Park on Saturday evening last.

Apart from the distinction of lifting the Leah Sheridan memorial cup, the Clonguish girls have also booked a spot in the Leinster Club Intermediate Championship with a quarter-final clash against the Wexford senior title winners Shelmalier at a venue to be confirmed on Saturday October 28th.
Despite the absence of Hannah Burke (injured), Ali Magan, Ella Duggan and Hannah Glennon from the team that started in the county final, the first half belonged to Clonguish who built up a comfortable 3-5 to 1-5 lead at the break with the goals coming from Aoife Darcy, Kamille Burke and Ciara Healy (top class strike).
A great goal from Jacinta Brady kept Killoe in contention and Clonguish failed to score in the second half as the gap was gradually closed.
Killoe brought on Eimear Igoe and Maria Rehill on the changeover to add strength to the midfield area and with the player of the match award winner Jacinta Brady producing a powerful performance, the pressure was on Clonguish who just did enough to get over the line by a solitary point in a tense and exciting finish.
Particularly prominent for the senior ‘B’ champions were Mairead Moore, Aoife Darcy (who scored 1-4) and the captain Katelyn McKeon and the Newtownforbes outfit will be hoping to make an impact in the Leinster competition.
