Longford IFC: Late penalty goal gets Killashee through to the last four as Cashel crash out

St  Brigid’s Killashee booked their place in the semi-finals of the Intermediate Football Championship after springing a surprise against neighbouring rivals Cashel in the Round 7 clash at the Clonbonny grounds in Lanesboro on Sunday last.   

St Brigid’s Killashee . . . 2-9   Cashel . . . 0-13

The crucial turning point of this close contest came in the 57th  minute. Cashel were leading by a point when a poor kick-out  was intercepted by Iarlaith Dolan and he put in Mark Rossiter who was fouled as he was about to shoot in a goal attempt.

Referee David Tiernan awarded a penalty which was calmly dispatched to the net by Dylan Farrell for the last score of the match with the winning goal sealing a last four encounter for Killashee against Sean Connolly’s at the expense of Cashel who are now out of the championship.
