Showing a lot of their usual great character, Mullinalaghta overcame the handicap of playing most of the second half with 14 players to snatch a last gasp draw against Colmcille in the Senior Football Championship Group 2 Round 3 clash at the Monaduff grounds in Drumlish on Friday night last.

Colmcille . . . 0-12  Mullinalaghta St Columba's . . . 1-9

St Columba’s were holding a slender one point lead (1-7 to 0-9) when defender James Rogers received a straight red card for a heavy tackle on Jack Macken in the 42nd minute and Colmcille were looking the likely winners at this stage in a repeat of last year’s county final.

When Cathal Reilly shot over the bar in the 56th minute, the reigning champions were in front by the minimum of margins but Mullinalaghta just refused to accept defeat and after a couple of frees dropped short the impressive David McGivney landed a cracking equalising point from play in stoppage time.

Gutsy Colmcille, without the injured Barry McKeon, deserve a lot of credit for getting back into contention after they ended up trailing by six points (1-4 to 0-1) with just eight minutes gone in the first half with David McGivney scoring the goal.

COLMCILLE: Padraig Murtagh; Conor Grant, Enda Macken, Gerard Mulligan; Declan Reilly, Ruairi Harkin, Shea Farrelly; Jack Macken (0-2, 1 free), Fergal Sheridan (0-2, 1 free); Shaun McKeon, Cathal Reilly (0-2), Eoin Hawkins (0-3); Philip McKeon, Cathal McCabe (0-1), Rory Hawkins.

Subs:- Paul McKeon (0-2, 2 frees) for R Hawkins (34 mins); Ciaran McKeon for D Reilly (injured, 50 mins), Eoghan Williams for Philip McKeon (54 mins).

MULLINALAGHTA ST COLUMBA'S: Patrick Rogers; James Rogers, Patrick Fox, Francis Mulligan; Conan Brady, Connor Leonard, Donal McElligott; Cian McElligott (0-1), Aidan McElligott (0-2); Gary Rogers, Shane Mulligan, Michael Cunningham; David McGivney (1-5, 3 frees, 1 mark), James McGivney, Emmet Brady (0-1).

Subs:- Cian Mackey for C Brady (37 mins).

Referee: Fergal Kelly (Ballymahon).
