Longford ladies football have enjoyed considerable success at under-age level in the recent past and the current County U-16 side overcame Wexford to reach the Leinster ‘B’ Championship final.

Longford . . . 1-12  Wexford  . . . 0-9

Played at St Annes GAA grounds, Rathangan in Co Wexford on Sunday last, Longford held a slender 1-5 to 0-6 lead at the break with Erin Murphy scoring the crucial goal and pushed on to produce a strong performance in the second half.

Backboned by a rock solid defence with Kayla Masterson and Amber McGrath particularly prominent in denying Wexford any goal scoring chances, the visitors were slick in attack in adding another seven points to their tally in the second half.

Longford’s best forward was Hannah Burke, who fired over a total of six points throughout the game, and the well balanced team who are managed by David Tiernan can now look forward to the Leinster ‘B’ title decider on Saturday May 6th against Meath who beat Laois after extra-time in the other semi-final on Sunday last.
