Stepping up into the ‘A’ grade after defeating Dublin in the Leinster ‘B’ final last year, the Longford minor ladies repeated that fantastic feat to score a brilliant win in the Group Stage Round 1 clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Wednesday evening.

Longford . . . 0-10    Dublin . . . 0-8

While Dublin were unfortunate not to score at least one goal with their dangerous corner-forward Timea Kovac hitting the crossbar for a remarkable four times during the course of this tight contest, so determined Longford showed a lot of spirit to eventually come out on top.

Kate Shannon and Anna Hayden clocked up nine of the ten points (five frees) between them and this was a big boost for ladies football in the county with the U-18 girls back in action away to Kildare next Wednesday evening (April 12th) in their quest to qualify for the Leinster ‘A’ title decider.
