Longford take on Meath in the Leinster U-20 Football Championship

Group Stage Round 1 game at Allen Park, Newtownforbes this Tuesday night, throw-in 7.30pm

After warming up with competitive games against Cavan, Leitrim and Fermanagh in the Philly McGuinness Cup tournament, the Longford U-20 footballers are in Leinster Championship action against Meath in the Round 1 clash at Allen Park, Newtownforbes this Tuesday night, throw-in 7.30pm.

Kieran Carey’s charges are facing a tough task against a strong Meath side but will be quietly confident of springing a surprise with home advantage at the Clonguish GAA grounds.

Longford take on Laois in the next round of the group stage at O’Moore Park on Tuesday March 28 and their remaining fixture is away to Carlow on Tuesday April 4.

The top two teams in Group 1 will qualify for the knockout stages. 

The Longford U-20 line-out in the 2-11 to 0-10 win over Fermanagh in the recent Philly McGuinness Cup game at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park:  Oisin McManus (Killoe); Darragh Finlass (Forgney), Sean Morgan (Longford Slashers), Conor Smith (Clonguish); Diarmuid Farrell (Ardagh Moydow), Dylan Lynch (Sean Connolly’s), Ross Shields (Clonguish); Ben Lynn (Longford Slashers), Matt Duffy (Dromard); Matthew Flynn (Clonguish, 0-1), Micheal Hynes (Granard, 0-2), Gavin Farrelly (Killoe); Jason Glancy (Clonguish), Jamie Brady Hynes (Granard, 0-5, 2 frees, 1 mark), Michael Flynn (Clonguish, 2-2, 1 free).

Subs:- Padraig Boyle (Ballymore) for D Farrell (45 mins); John Rawle (Sean Connolly’s) for B Lynn (53 mins); Eoghan Williams (Colmcille) for J Glancy (53 mins); Cian Sutton (Clonguish, 0-1) for S Morgan (60 mins); Caolan Lynch (Abbeylara) for M Duffy (fifth minute of stoppage time).
