After kicking a vital victory away in their unlucky single point defeat against Offaly at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday last, Longford stay stuck in the drop zone.
Rooted at the bottom of the National League Division 3 table alongside the also winless Tipperary, Paddy Christie’s under pressure side produced what was probably their best performance so far this season in the first half against the faithful county.
But they paid the price for very poor finishing on the changeover in kicking a total of 11 wides and were hit by a massive blow when substitute Jack Bryant scored the decisive second goal for Offaly in the 55th minute.
Longford are now on the brink of relegation into Division 4 but they are not gone yet and could still survive despite the difficult task against Down in Newry on Saturday week, March 18.
It might all boil down to their final fixture against fellow strugglers Antrim at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday March 26 but the midlanders will possibly be depending on other results working out in their favour.
