Following their fine win over Cavan in the opening round, the Longford U-20 footballers produced a disappointing display against Leitrim in the Philly McGuinness Cup clash at Avant Money Páirc Seán MacDiarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday.
Leitrim . . . 1-9 Longford . . . 0-7
Longford trailed by two points at the break (0-5 to 0-3) but made poor use of the stiff wind advantage in the second half with a cracking goal from Ben Guckian in the 48th minute clinching a deserved win for Leitrim.
Kieran Carey’s charges can still qualify for the Philly McGuinness Cup final with a win over Fermanagh at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday March 4 but are depending on Leitrim failing to beat Cavan in the remaining group stage fixtures.
