Cystic Fibrosis Ireland is urging Longford people to dust off their walking shoes for a great cause and sign up for the Paddy Kieran’s International Walk taking place in Croatia from September 22 to 29, 2017.

2017 marks the 23rd year of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland's International Walk and what promises to be an unforgettable experience.

The 2017 walk, which starts in Dubrovnik and finishes in Orebic, sees participants walking an average of 10km each day and taking in such sights as Medjugorje, Korcula Island and the historical town of Ston with its great walls.

The walk is dedicated to the memory of Drogheda man, Paddy Kierans, a legendary champion for people with cystic fibrosis who passed away in 2006. Since it first got underway, people on the walk have set foot in numerous countries, including Vietnam, Portugal, Montenegro, Poland, Turkey, Italy and the United States of America.

Breath-taking Landscape
Bernie Murphy, Chairperson of the Cystic Fibrosis Ireland walk committee, believes that the 2017 Croatia International Walk will be one of the best yet:

"Croatia offers a breath-taking landscape, from spectacular mountains, to lush woodlands, to shimmering lakes – there really is something for everyone. With the help of trusted guides, this walk offers a great opportunity for people to get their walking boots on, and to get up close and personal with one of Europe's most beautiful countries. Not only that, they will get a real sense of Croatian culture, visiting historic sights, sampling Croatian cuisine and getting to know the locals.”

Dr Eddie Murphy well know TV psychologist has joined Cystic Fibrosis Ireland as ambassador for the walk in Croatia.

“Walking creates a great opportunity for lifelong wellness and friendships. Most importantly, of course, they will be helping to raise much-needed funds for supports for people with cystic fibrosis and their families. We know how challenging life can be for people with cystic fibrosis. If you have ever heard the story of someone with cystic fibrosis and how difficult things can be, then this is your chance to do something really special to show your solidarity. The walk is suited to all levels of fitness, with participants walking an average of 10 kilometres each day on the week-long adventure. Come and join us, with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, you will never walk alone!"

The fundraising target for the Walk is €2,980 and this will cover all costs including flights, accommodations and meals.
