With just 2 weeks left to the start of the 2014 Cairn Hill Challenge preparations are in full swing in the Drumlish area. The Tuesday night training group continues to grow and progress, last week saw many of the group compete their first nonstop 5k under the supervision of Coach Brendan Doyle.
The progress of participants has been remarkable with some who thought they would never progress beyond walking expressing their amazement and satisfaction at jogging their first 5k on Tuesday last. Expert coaching and motivation from Brendan Doyle combined with the enthusiasm of the participants has seen people progress far beyond their expectations in a very short space of time.
As the dark evenings of winter have given way to the longer, brighter days of Spring new walkers and runners have joined to group and newcomers are welcome to join at anytime. Simply go to Drumlish Community Centre at 6.50pm any Tuesday to register, it only costs €2.
Due to public demand the organisers have added a 5k event to the programme for May 4th, this in addition to the 10 mile and 10k routes already in place. The 10 mile and 10k are both Athletics Ireland approved and Chip timing is in place. Registration is available at www.precisiontiming.net .
Details of the 10k and 10 mile routes are available at http://cairn-hill-challenge.simplesite.com
The 5k route is accurately measured and registration will be available on the morning of the event. A route map will be published on the website shortly.
For anyone wishing to join the group please contact Colin on 086 0761556, there will be a nominal fee of just €2 per person per session.
