Granard will be the venue for County Longford Ploughing Championships 2019

Congratulations to Patrick Durkin and Sean Donohoe from Granard on being selected as joint hosts of the 'County Longford Ploughing Championships'.

This year's ploughing is being staged on their land at Higginstown on Sunday, March 24.

Many will remember the 2008 Ploughing Championships hosted by the Donohoe family while Patrick Durkin's field hosted the ploughing in 1979 , all of 40 years ago.

This year's event takes place on the Sunday following St Patrick's Day.

With Easter coming late this year on April 21, the excitement surrounding this outdoor family field day, will bring a refreshing Spring air to the town.

Almost 20 years ago, Eugene McGee noted the ploughing attracted the largest gathering of people in County Longford after the County Final. So fingers crossed for good weather on the big day.
