Dates for the festive diary: The key events happening in Longford this Christmas

With only a few more sleeps to Christmas, the people of Longford are looking at what festive events and activites are available to them. Below is a list of the top events happening around the county:

Friday, December 21

* The Crossroads Inn, Lisryan, will hold its Christmas Party Night with entertainment by the Loony Hoppers

Saturday, December 22

* The Greville Arms Hotel will hold a Christmas Party Night with music by classics DJ, Pat Masterson
* Camillus Egerton will perform at the Chestnut Tree, Killashee
* Matt Leavy will perform at Fox's Tooman
* Derek Ryan will perform at the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon (see details below)

Sunday, December 23

* The Greville Arms will hold a second Christmas Party Night with music by classics DJ Pat Masterson
* Fox's Tooman will host a gig by J & L Sound
* Longford comedian Sean Finnerty, together with Dublin comic Colum Tyrell will bring their hilarious new show to John Browne's Bar, Longford Town at 7.30pm

Tuesday, December 25, Christmas Day

* The GOAL Mile will kick off at 12 noon from Connolly Barracks
* The annual Lanesboro Christmas Day Swim will take place following 11.30am mass in Lanesboro on Christmas morning
* The 28th annual MS Christmas Day Run kicks off from The Hill, Newtowncashel from 11.45am for walkers and 12.15pm for runners

Wednesday, December 26, St Stephen's Day

* Dromard Men's Shed will hold its Christmas Fun Run/Walk, starting from the Latin School Community Centre at 2pm
* A Turkey Run in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation and Bunlahy Area Action Group will take place, starting at 2.30pm at Creegan's of Bunlahy
* The Shane Brennan 5K Run & Walk in Newtownforbes starts from 12.45pm for walkers and 1pm for runners.
* Alan & Friends - Unplugged will perform at the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva
* The Crossroads Inn, Lisryan, will host a gig by Johnny Mullen
*The Lancers will perform at Fox's Tooman
* The Olde Village Inn, Drumlish, will play host to popular band, Cronin
