Midlands event to showcase careers in the modern Construction Industry

Careers in Construction, a major event showcasing the many vibrant and exciting career options for young people across the Construction Industry and Built Environment, will take place in Athlone on Thursday, January 25.

Experts from companies across all disciplines throughout the Construction Industry and Built Environment will be on hand to speak to an expected 500 students on the day, alongside Educational Providers including Institutes of Technology, SOLAS and Educational Training Boards.  

Among the many options available students will have the opportunity to explore modern construction technologies such as Building Information Modelling

The event, which is the first of its kind, was organised by the Regional Skills Forum and Construction Industry Federation (CIF).

Dermot Carey, Director of Safety & Training, CIF said:

“This Careers in Construction event will showcase the exciting array of careers that are available to young people in the modern construction industry. Many local and national firms will showcase their sectors at the event and the latest design and construction technology will be on display. We will also have a number of young professionals, who have recently joined the industry, there to give the students the benefit of their experiences to date.

We welcome this partnership with Midland Regional Skills Forum and the opportunity to meet with 500 young people to demonstrate the opportunities that exist and the learning / training services that are available in their locality in order to achieve their career goals. This is an exciting time to be exploring career in construction.”

Lorraine Danaher, Midlands Regional Skills Manager said:

“This event is a great example of collaboration between Industry, Education and Training Providers and the Regional Skills Forum in addressing skills needs in the construction sector. We are introducing a new initiative today called 'Adopt A School.' This involves industry adopting a school to promote the construction sector in a number of ways including industry talks in schools, work placements, site visits,advice on careers in the sector.”
