Longford Town will be the first in Ireland to Go Black for Christmas on Friday next, November 27.

The Black Friday shopping event will take place for one day only on that date, and with everything you need for the festive season along with plenty of top offers and bargains galore, it will be very evident that Longford town has it all.

“Black Friday falls on the Friday following the American Holiday, Thanksgiving and this year Longford Chamber of Commerce and Industry has engaged with over 80 local businesses and banks to offer a special start to the holiday season for local shoppers,” Lisa Brady told the Leader.

There are thousands of offers up for grabs including deals, discounts and opportunities to win vouchers.

The campaign is also progressing well on Social Media sites thanks to the Media Marketing team from Scoil Mhuire’s TY Business & Enterprise Module.

“The offers on the day will be one-off - shoppers will not be able to avail of them at any other time of the year and they include meal deals, dental care and lots, lots more,” added Ms Brady.

AIB, Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank will also open late on the day, closing at 5pm, however cash services will be available at the facilities until 6pm.

Santa will be in town for the whole day and the lights will be switched on at the Market Square’s Christmas tree at 6:30pm.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Fintan McGill said Longford had so much to offer in terms of retail choice.

“We hope that the Black Friday campaign this year will reinforce the strength and depth of local retailers and the truly excellent value for money that is available in Longford,” he added.

On Black Friday, those visiting Longford town can expect significant additional discounts in participating stores; late night shop opening until 8pm; late night banking; turning on of the Christmas Street Lights at 6.30pm; free off street parking all day and prizes for shopping locally.”

AIB, Bank of Ireland Longford Credit Union, Permanent TSB and Ulster Bank are the main sponsors of Longford town’s Black Friday event.
