Ballymahon MD Election Profiles: Mark Casey vows to stand up for rural citizens

Cllr Mark Casey, Independent

Independent Cllr Mark Casey has arguably been one of Longford County Council's most impressive performers over the past fives years.

Now seeking a third successive term, the Lanesboro father of three has  pledged to work for the betterment and future development of communities across Co Longford between now and and 2024.

“You only have to see how many of these places have been ripped apart by successive governments with their closures of rural post offices, garda stations and health centres,” he said.

“That's why I am going to continue to work with local community groups and Tidy Towns bodies to bring playgrounds, festivals and the like back to these places.”

A key ally to Longford /Westmeath Independent Alliance TD Kevin 'Boxer'Moran, Cllr Casey has said he will continue to use that steady working relationship to continue the “unprecedented levels” of funding which has come Longford's way.

He has likewise vowed to continue to fight against plans for  the much talked about Derryadd Windfarm.

“I cannot and will not stand by while rural people are railroaded by multinational companies like this and those faceless people in Dublin who are trying to turn a quick buck on the people of rural Ireland,” he contended.
