Councillors call for funding for a low cost safety scheme at 'the dangerous junction in Moydow
Two local representatives have called on Longford County Council to seek funding for a low cost safety scheme at 'the dangerous junction at Bawn, Moydow'.
Fine Gael Councillor Paul Ross and Fianna Fáil Cllr Mick Cahill both submitted separate motions at last week's monthly meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District.

Cllr Ross stated it is a 'particularly dangerous section of road where numerous cars have crashed into a private residence'.
Cllr Ross said 'periodically' it comes before the local authority in relation to crashes and he acknowledged it is a difficult junction to solve.
"It's on a rural road and a bad stretch and this year on Christmas Day there was a car that ended up in someone's front garden and it almost hit their house.
"It's a particularly dangerous junction and it's been a problem for a number of years and it's something we have to look at as but for the grace of God this car could have went through the house and it's lucky there was nobody killed."
Cllr Cahill also had a similar motion on the agenda where he urged the local authority to take 'remedial action to improve awareness of the area.
Cllr Cahill seconded Cllr Ross' motion and the Legan representative returned the favour.
Cllr Cahill stated the house at the 'corner is very vulnerable when a vehicle is out of control, which has happened on several occasions and he said some additional warning signage at the '90-degree bend' would be a help.

"It might draw someone's attention to it coming down the hill and I think that is something we could do."
Senior Executive Engineer Brian McNeela said Longford County Council would "review the location to determine appropriate measures that can be put in place' and they 'will consider this location for future road cost safety scheme applications'.
