Maksymilian Zukrowski (19) has already undergone three major surgeries since he was involved in a serious road accident
A group of Polish nationals living in Ballymahon, Co Longford have come together to help raise funds for a young man who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident.
Maksymilian (Max) Zukrowski (19) sustained severe injuries following the collision which occurred on May 9 and he was in a coma and spent weeks in a Dublin hospital.
His road to recovery will be very long and Slavek Kazek explained that they are organising the fundraising event on Sunday, July 13 in Skelly’s, Ballymahon to help his parents, Artur and Jadwiga, cover the hospital bill.

The fundraiser will feature live music by 'Luain' from Mullingar at 2pm and 'By The Way' at 4pm and there will also be face painting for children, a cake sale and a raffle with great prizes. Tickets for the July 13 fundraiser cost €20 and all support would be appreciated.
A gofundme page called ‘Call for help for Maksymilian’ has also been set up by his father Artur.
Artur, his wife Jadwiga and daughter Amelia, explained that Maksymilian has already undergone three major surgeries, including two life-saving procedures and a muscle and skin graft. The most devastating complication, however, was brain hypoxia (oxygen deprivation), which has left our son in a vegetative state.
They added, "Since the day of the accident, Maksymilian has been in intensive care. He remained in a coma for four weeks. Until June 16, 2025, he was hospitalized at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, receiving continuous care in the intensive care unit. The cost of his stay at this hospital has reached €53,000 – a bill that we as a family now need to cover.
"On June 17, Maksymilian was transferred to The Mater Hospital in Dublin, where he is currently in the trauma unit.
"Today, he is breathing on his own, and his lungs and kidneys are functioning – this gives us hope. Sadly, despite the improvements in his vital functions, his neurological condition remains very serious.

"We do not know how long his hospital treatment will continue. However, we are now facing a long, difficult, and extremely expensive rehabilitation process, aimed at regaining at least some level of functionality for our son and giving him a chance at a better future.
"This is why we are humbly asking for your support – every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to being able to provide Maksymilian with the specialised rehabilitation and medical equipment that will be essential for his continued care and everyday life.
"We are deeply grateful to all kind-hearted people for every form of support – financial, spiritual, and through prayer.
"Your help gives us the strength to continue fighting every day for the health and life of our precious son."
