Strokestown Park House
The Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs,Heather Humphreys TD, will visit Strokestown Park House, Co. Roscommon this Thursday September 15 to take part in a women’s history event ‘Revolutionaries in their own Right: Irish Women in War and Revolution’.
The two day seminar on Thursday and Friday takes place in the historical setting of the Galleried Kitchens at the House, and is a partnership between the Irish Heritage Trust and Roscommon County Library Services.
The event will look at changing roles and lives of women during the decade 1912-22. Chaired by Senator Alice Mary Higgins, speakers will discuss how women empowered themselves in multiple ways – not only through radicalisation, political action and revolution, but by volunteering for medical service and orchestrating campaigns to raise aid for Irish soldiers and prisoners of war during the Great War.
