Backstage Youth Theatre (BYT) are back with a brand new pantomime ‘Happily Ever After?’
Following on from their sell out success last year with ‘Bo Peep’, the BYT return with their fourth pantomime at the Backstage Theatre and for the first time, it has been penned by members of the group.
The plot is a mix of some well-known fairytales and characters but, as with all pantos, things don’t happen the way they do in the story-books, so there are a lot of questions to be answered.
BYT Leader and author of the last three pantos Brendan Williams is delighted that the members are now writing the script. “It is a fantastic show” he says. “It’s so good, I wish I had written it. I would urge everyone in Longford to come and see it. You won’t see a funnier panto anywhere in Ireland.”
BYT Chairperson and Director, Paul Higgins agrees. “BYT is a very talented group and it is fantastic that the script has been written by our members.
“The panto has become a huge part of BYT’s year and it is great that everyone in the group gets involved. We have a superb make-up team and a brilliant stage manager and crew.” Paul adds that rehearsals are ongoing and the show is “really taking shape”, adding “We are confident that ‘Happily Ever After?’ will be our biggest and best production yet, with a brilliant script, a fantastic cast and an amazing crew behind the scenes.”
‘Happily Ever After?’ will run in Backstage Theatre for six shows; from Friday, January 24 to Sunday, January 26 and again from Thursday, January 30 to Saturday, February 1. Tickets, costing €8/€12 (Family Tickets €35), are available from the theatre box office (043) 33 47888, online at www.backstage.ie or from Farrell Coy.
