John McManus’ new play ‘A Lock of Fierce Roars’ will be performed in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva on Saturday, February 22, with proceeds going to Saint Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan. On February 26, the ‘98 Hall, Ballinamuck will host the play, with proceeds going to St Helen’s Ladies Football Club.

St Valentine’s Mass

A special Mass will be celebrated at 7pm on St Valentine’s Day as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations for the Clonguish parish church in Newtownforbes. All married couples, engaged couples and those recently married are invited to the Mass. There will be a guest homilist from Accord.

Corn Mill Theatre Group

‘The Devil’s Céili’, by Philip Doherty and Kevin McGahern, will be performed by the Corn Mill Theatre Group from February 14–16; February 21-23 and February 28–March 2.

Get Out Get Active

To officially end the ‘Get Out Get Active’ initiative in Ballinalee, a 10k walk will take place on Saturday, February 15. Following the walk, the final weigh in will take place at Maguire Park. That night, a celebration will be held in the Stag’s Head, where a prize will be presented to the team with the biggest combined weight loss. Entertainment will be provided by ‘Pure Country’.


Ballinagh branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann are having a tribute night to honour Seamus Tierney for his great achievements in the All Ireland Fleadh in Derry in 2013. The event will be held in Brady’s Lounge on Saturday, February 15 at 9pm. All are welcome.


The Mulligan Sisters will be in concert at the Backstage Theatre, Longford on Saturday, February 15.

Dinner dance

Longford Slashers GAA will celebrate their dinner dance in the clubhouse on Saturday, February 15. On the same night, Young Grattans GAA will celebrate in the Sin Bin (Rugby Club) Longford.

Fun run/walk

A 5k fun run/walk will take place in Castlepollard on Sunday, February 16, in aid of life changing surgery for seven year old Jane Boyle Regan. The event starts at 1pm and registration will take place from 11.45am in Castlepollard Town Hall.

A 5k fun run/walk will also take place from Longford Rugby Club on the same day, in aid of Longford Youth’s Rugby Club. Registration will take place at Longford Rugby Club from 11.15am before the walk at 12.30.
