JP Wright has worked for Netflix, Sky Sports and various videogames
What started as a man emerging from a hedge during a fishing trip in Longford has led to the online popularity of ‘Longford Larry’. JP Wright, a voice actor who has worked for videogames, Netflix and Sky Sports, the latter he did the introduction for the Katie Taylor fight, came to chat to the ‘Longford Leader’ about how his popular GTA 5 parodies came about.
“A few years ago, I was doing some voiceovers for a client in New York. He was using GTA characters. I thought I should use these for my demos. I told him I’d do the work for free if I got the footage. We had a social media manager stay with us, who was American, who told us to get into Tiktok. I made a character called Tallaght Tony. One of my big hobbies is fishing. We moved four years ago from mainland Europe. I was fishing in Longford and this guy popped out of the hedge. Nobody else around. It was, like, 7 in the morning. “Are you from Dublin, are you?” I said no. And he said: “Good. I’m from Longford.”

That very elusive man who retreated into the hedge became the foundation for Longford Larry. It started with a show, was on Tiktok, but faded out along with “Tallaght Tony” due to a busy schedule. Around September 2025, JP's schedule settled and he restarted on Instagram.
“I did a video about Longford Larry’s Back in 2025. It kicked off. People ask me when Longford Larry’s coming to their town. I get drunk guys messaging me at 2am thinking he’s real and what he’d do in situations. Then there’s the personalised Larry messages. My busiest time of year is November and December. Santa for children all over the world. Somebody said we’d love a message from Larry. Then I did the Larry messages.”
‘Longford Larry Comes to Dublin’ has received widespread attention. Longford fans and beyond have praised the humour. JP said that actors from Game of Thrones, massive band members and sports stars started following him since it was posted. It came out in late 2025.
With the wait for GTA 6 by Rockstar, ‘Longford Larry’ is filling the void. When asked whether the titular character will be moving to GTA 6 when the game is released, JP confidently said that Longford Larry would cause some “mayhem.”
JP has plenty of Longford spots that he enjoys. He has a friend in Drumlish, and visits the Mill Bar. As an avid fisherman, he mentioned how informative the guys in Dennistons are.

As a final note to his audience, JP said the following:
“Never be offended by Larry. He’s fictional, always out for a bit of craic. Keep tuning into Instagram and Tiktok and get a few laughs.”
