The atmosphere is electric in Granard this afternoon as the town’s Christmas Markets kick off with gusto.
Santa has arrived in the north Longford town and dozens of children have queued up outside his temporary abode at the Granard Motte Development Centre on the outskirts of the town.
Local producers and manufactures are displaying their wares at the centre, which has been thronged with people since early afternoon, and there is lots of entertainment from local singers and musicians.
One of the highlights of this year’s event is the handmade sleigh and reindeers which was created by the local Men’s Shed Group.
This group is run by Lus na Greine Family Resource Centre and manager Eileen Finan spoke to the Leader about the initiative.
“We have lots of men in the group who are coming from different backgrounds and they are a fantastic resource to the family resource centre,” she added.
“This year they have made a beautiful sleigh and reindeers; it’s absolutely fabulous and the kids love it!
“The are very excited about getting their photographs taken in it.”
Meanwhile, and later this evening, the Christmas lights will be officially switched on in Granard. For all this and more, see next week's Longford Leader!
