National school in Longford lodges planning application for extension

Planning permission is being sought for an extension to Lenamore National School, with a planning application lodged in the past week with Longford County Council.
It is seeking approval for a proposed single storey extension to the south east of the existing school to provide 2 Special Education Tuition Rooms and disabled staff WC (total floor area: 42.8sqm).
The proposed development will include internal alterations including demolition and removal of existing staff WC to form a new access corridor and all ancillary internal and external works.
The planning application was submitted by the Board of Management of Lenamore National School on July 15.
A decision is due on the application on September 8 next.
It has been a memorable year for the school as Friday, March 20 of this year marked exactly 50 years to the day when Lenamore National School in Legan moved from the old schoolhouse to its current location.
To mark the occasion, former staff, pupils and locals were invited to the school to attend a special mass in honour of the occasion along with a social get together afterwards.
