Renowned South Longford historian celebrates 90th birthday with new book

Paddy Egan celebrated his 90th birthday and to mark the milestone, the renowned Kenagh historian and prolific author published ‘Rambles in Kilcommock’ Volume 9.
In the digital age the value of preserving culture has become even more pronounced. In his own way Paddy Egan has been conserving heritage for decades.
Last weekend Paddy celebrated his 90th birthday and to mark the milestone, the renowned Kenagh historian and prolific author published his latest edition of ‘Rambles in Kilcommock’ Volume 9, A collection of poems of local interest.
Paddy’s wealth of knowledge is impressive and to scratch the surface of that knowledge all you have to do is purchase his latest publication, ‘Rambles in Kilcommock’.
The book features forty poems of local interest and it is on sale in local shops.
Paddy, who has been the Kenagh correspondent for the Longford Leader for many decades, explained, “This is the ninth edition of ‘Rambles in Kilcommock’.
What started as a very local public account of the ancient parish of Kilcommock has now become nine volumes of life around Ireland and beyond.”
Paddy said he kept the title ‘Rambles in Kilcommock’ to ‘maintain identity’.
He expressed thanks to all those who bought books over the years. “Thanks also to my family who have supported the venture from day one. Thanks to Ann and Breege for typing up volume nine and Longford County Council for their support.”
Paddy, a fountain of knowledge on the old ways, poignantly dedicates the book to his late brothers, Eamon, Francis, Dominic and Michael, all of whom passed away recently.
Paddy, who is known for his involvement in many organisations, including the GAA, IFA and Longford Ploughing Association, said “as long as I have a bag of sweets and a bit of paper, I’m happy!”
There is no doubt that Paddy’s new book ‘Rambles in Kilcommock’ Volume 9 will again be a bestselling book. The book is on sale locally coasting €10.
