New book by Úna Byrne and Mary Keegan Hynes entitled ‘Ardagh, County Longford – Our Estate Village and Our Residents, 1860-2026’ will be launched by Tom Kenny of Kenny's Bookshop and Art Gallery, Galway
Úna Byrne and Mary Keegan Hynes are both Ardagh natives. Úna grew up in the family shop run by her parents, Anne and Tommy.
Mary grew up in the Post Office with her parents, Peggie and Stevie Keegan, and her aunt Girlie Kenny. Úna now lives in Longford and Mary in County Galway.
Their new book, ‘Ardagh, County Longford – Our Estate Village and Our Residents, 1860-2026’, follows the people who have lived in each house in the village since it was built by the Fetherston family.
The book includes a photograph of every house, along with family photographs shared by residents.
It also covers Ardagh House, the Fetherston family home, and the history of the village's churches and schools, including St Brigid’s Domestic Science College.
"Every old house has a voice, and each house has many stories to tell," say the authors.
The book will be launched by Tom Kenny of Kenny's Bookshop and Art Gallery, Galway, whose grandfather and great-grandfather lived in the village until 1921.
The launch is on Friday, October 23 at 7:30pm in Ardagh Community Centre. Everyone is welcome, and refreshments will be served. The book costs €20.
