A slow-moving convoy that included dozens of trucks and tractors involved in a Longford fuel protest held up traffic this afternoon on the N5 on the outskirts of the county town.
The protest led to a lengthy tailback at about 3.30pm on the N5 near Longford Town's football stadium Bishopsgate, where the hauliers and farmers had gathered, and it then moved on to the ring road.

Hauliers and agricultural contractors began protests at various sites around the country on Tuesday by implementing slow-moving convoys on motorways, restricting access in Termonbarry to traffic driving towards Longford, on Dublin’s busiest streets and blockading fuel depots that supply half the country.
The slow-moving convoy on the outskirts of Longford town took place on Friday afternoon as national farming and haulier organisations were meeting with the government at Leinster House over rising fuel costs.
The Government said protestors were turned away from the meeting and they would talk to them if they were part of the national associations' delegation.
