Intercultural Play Day a huge success

Waiting for Video...

The newly elected County Mayor Frankie Kilbride officially opened the Longford Play Day. He told the thousands of children attending that “Longford Local Authorities were delighted to be part of this event which highlights the importance of play in the lives of children. Play is a vital part of child development and is essential for creation of well rounded and happy adults. In fact it is so important that there is an article number 31 on the United Nations convention on the rights of the child dedicated to play”

A number of local organisations, groups and individuals were involved in making this event happen and especially all the volunteers who were helping out on the day.

He thanked all those from the Local Authority who had supported Play Day, Longford County Childcare Committee, Longford Community Resources Ltd , Longford Library Services, Longford Sports Partnership, Acorn

An Garda, The Leap project, Brendan Gilmore Securities, The Volunteer Centre , 5th generation group, Springlawn Childcare, Community Group , RAPID , Longford Tidy Towns, Civil Defence and Longford Scouts and the staff in the Mall.

The sun shone all day and there were some very strange looking masked children running around all made in the arts and craft section. There were excellent puppets shows and cool scavenger hunts along with loads of fun and games.
