An Taisce's Green-Schools initiative aimed at getting more girls cycling to school, #AndSheCycles, has launched its 2025/2026 Ambassador Programme and invites secondary schools across the country to join the movement. With statistics showing ten times more boys than girls cycle to school, the campaign aims to empower teenage girls to take the lead on two wheels, break down barriers, and create lasting change.

Throughout the school year, the #AndSheCycles Ambassadors will tackle the challenges that hold them back from cycling, boost their confidence, and master essential cycling skills. They’ll develop leadership and communication skills while inspiring their peers to ride more, creating a real movement in their schools. More than just a cycling programme, #AndSheCycles gives girls the chance to lead change, gain new skills, and make their schools more cycling-friendly.
"Last year’s #AndSheCycles ambassador programme was the biggest one yet, and this year we’re aiming to make it even bigger," said Allison Phillips, Green-Schools Travel Manager. Thirteen schools from counties around the country - Sligo to Cork, Dublin to Galway, represented the programme last year.

"Each year, we are blown away by the work carried out by the ambassadors. They are truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see what this year’s ambassadors will achieve. This is such a worthwhile programme, and with every year we run it, we feel we’re making real progress in closing the cycling gender gap."
Teachers can apply on behalf of their schools, provided they are a current Green-Schools working on Travel or Global Citizenship Travel, or have done so in the past. Previous ambassador schools are also welcome to re-apply at www.greenschoolsireland.org/andshecycles.
