Handball enthusiasts from across county Longford and the country will converge on Abbeylara for 1pm on Saturday, August 16 as the eagerly anticipated action gets underway.

First up is the Ladies Senior Final between Limerick’s Martina McMahon and Kilkenny’s Amy Brennan.

In last Saturday’s semi-finals at the National Handball Centre, Croke Park, Martina comfortably defeated Aoife McCarthy (Westmeath) 21-1, 21-4. While Amy had a much sterner test as she overcame her fellow Kilkenny competitor Aoife Holden by 21-19, 21-12.

The Men’s Senior decider is an all-Leinster affair and involves two fine players from neighbouring counties, Robbie McCarthy Jnr. (Westmeath) and Gary McConnell (Meath).

This pair were also in semi-final action at Croke Park last weekend. McCarthy defeated Meath’s Brian Carroll 21-20, 21-5 and in the second penultimate round tie McConnell got the better of Kilkenny’s Kyle Jordan 21-11, 21-12.

The Official In Charge at the venue on Saturday is Abbeylara’s Jenny Mahon and two great contests are in prospect as the curtain comes down on the GAA Handball All-Ireland Softball (60x30) Finals.
