It is a tale of two halves on the weather front for Ireland this weekend with glorious 24C sunshine on Saturday followed by a nasty break to more Atlantic conditions on Sunday.

That's according to Met Éireann whose forecasters have delivered their predictions for the coming days. Their outlook warns that things look like "turning cooler with rain and showers at times" but there is good news before that change.

They say Friday will be "warm and dry with long spells of sunshine developing in most areas. It will be cloudy at times in the south with the chance of some showers developing there later. Highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees with light to moderate northeasterly winds, fresher at times near eastern coasts.

"Mostly dry tonight with long clear spells though still cloudier at times in the south with the chance of a few heavy showers. Humid with temperatures not falling below 11 to 15 degrees in light northeasterly breezes with patches of mist and fog developing."

The weekend will start out warm on Saturday with forecasters saying it will be "largely dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, the best of which will be in the west and north. There will likely be a few showers, mainly for parts of Munster and Leinster. Highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees in light variable breezes."

There will be clear spells at first on Saturday night but Met Éireann warn there will also be "some heavy showers in parts of Leinster and Munster" and it will turn cloudier from the northwest with "patchy light rain and drizzle moving into west Ulster and Connacht by morning.

"Another humid night with temperatures not falling below 13 to 16 degrees in light northerly breezes, more moderate near Atlantic coasts. Some mist and fog patches will develop."

Sunday will be "mostly dull and cloudy with some patchy rain and drizzle about though there is a chance of heavier and more persistent rain in the southeast. Becoming drier towards the evening with sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees. North to northwest winds will be mostly light to moderate but fresher for Atlantic coasts.

"Mostly dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells though there will be a few isolated showers [on Sunday night]. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly winds."

Looking ahead to next week, Monday will be "dry and sunny in the morning before turning cloudier from the west with well scattered showers following. A cooler day with highest temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, westerly winds.

"Sunshine and showers expected [on Tuesday], most frequent in the north where they may be heavy. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, strong at times in the north and northwest."
