Killoe Emmet Og were the recipients of the Team of the Year award at the recent Longford Leader Sports Awards 2025, in association with Longford Sports Partnership, in the Longford Arms Hotel.

Liam Hughes and Ronan Keogh accepted the award from sponsor Niamh Begley of Begley’s Bar Killoe.

What a wonderful year it turned out to be for the Killoe club with their remarkable record in the Longford senior football championship maintained in a very tense finish to this year’s county final.

Just a single point separated the sides in the finish as Emmet Og held out to overcome Colmcille with some of their more established players winning a 7th senior medal during a glorious period stretching back to 2012.

What Killoe have achieved since then is serious stuff, to say the least, with another six Connolly Cup triumphs added to their long list of honours, and the general opinion is that there is still more to come from the so successful club situated a short few miles from the town.

Emmet Og have not lost a senior football championship final since 1987 when they had victory snatched from their grasp in a dramatic end to the showdown against St Patrick’s Ardagh.

Killoe are the undisputed current kings of Longford football and over the same memorable weekend of their latest senior silverware in October they also claimed the Junior A and C football championship titles to complete a truly tremendous treble.

Let us not forget the Killoe ladies who were crowned the Longford LGFA Intermediate champions this year and this is a club with a great structure and no shortage of success.
