Inspiring the next Shane Lowry or Leona Maguire: Longford golf club volunteer Rheda Quinn honoured

County Longford Golf Club's Junior Convenor, Rheda Quinn, was the recipient of the Club Volunteer of the Year award at the recent Longford Leader Sports Awards 2025, in association with Longford Sports Partnership, in the Longford Arms Hotel. 

Through Rheda’s leadership and effective management the junior section has thrived to become a vibrant and vital element of the club's future. Numbers have grown from 25 to 100 over a three year period.

Rheda has held the position of Junior Convenor for a number of years. She has a proven ability to motivate other members and parents to work with her on a voluntary basis. She is conscientious in articulating appreciation to them and having their efforts recognised publically whenever the occasion arises.

A naturally organised person, Rheda recognises the importance of developing plans in conjunction with the junior committee and communicating those plans clearly to all concerned. A very sociable and approachable person, communication comes easy to her. She also uses technology effectively to communicate and keep accurate records.

A major development last year, at Rheda ’s instigation, was the introduction of the former Mid West Junior Alliance Tournament. Longford juniors  emerged victorious this year which was a major achievement for the club.     

Rheda is passionate and totally committed to keeping the interests of County Longford Golf Club junior players to the forefront of all club plans and activities, which is always done in a low-key and most pleasant manner.

And everyone at the club is quite certain that what Rheda does will remain in the hearts and minds of young people as a great role model and positive nurturing influence during their years as beginner golfers.
