The dedicated team at Specsavers Longford has served the local community for almost nine years. Since opening in 2014, store partners Fiona Ferguson and Keith McCallion have focused on providing the very best on-site eye care and audiology support to local and surrounding communities.

Since opening with just eight staff members in 2014, Specsavers Longford are delighted to have grown to a team of 20 colleagues, including expert optometrists and audiologists. The optical and audiology teams proudly and passionately serve the local community and are always looking to grow and improve their business, ensuring they provide the best possible service, support, and advice to their local and loyal customers.

The expertise of its staff, coupled with the technology available to them, makes Specsavers Longford the perfect choice. Experts in eye care, the Longford store has two dedicated optical testing rooms, overseen by a team of optometrists, Fiona Ferguson, Keith McCallion, Emma Clarke and Noreen McDermott. From routine eye tests to contact lens fittings, Specsavers Longford can provide all aspects of professional eye care.

In addition, its hearing services are led by audiologist, Colin Costello and the store boasts a dedicated audiology room complete with a soundproof booth to ensure the most accurate results when carrying out hearing tests.

Specsavers Longford staff are recognised for their professionalism and expert care. Aisling Nertney is a textbook example of the company’s ethos to grow from within. She joined the company almost nine years ago as an optical assistant. Having availed of opportunities offered to her within store, Aisling trained and gained the knowledge and development required to qualify as a dispensing optician in 2017, while now acting as assistant manager in Specsavers Longford.

Committed to providing the best level of service for all, Specsavers is proud to be the first opticians and audiologists to achieve Age Friendly status in Ireland. Specsavers Longford became Age Friendly accredited in 2021, committing themselves to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for older customers. Specsavers Longford are recognised for their expert professionalism and unmatched customer care, having won an award for Platinum Employer in 2018, an award which is only given to Specsavers stores that deliver an exceptional employee experience. Specsavers Longford was awarded this title due to its outstanding management standards and staff development.

Fiona Ferguson, founding director of Specsavers Longford, says: ‘Our customers are at the heart of our store and as a pillar of the community, we strive to ensure we provide the best level of service in an environment that feels safe and comfortable. Registering to be an Age Friendly Business was a must for us to ensure we are providing the best service for our older customers and reassure them of our standards in store. We are proud to be a team who leads by example.’

The store has also invested in state-of-the-art optical technology such as the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, a cutting-edge piece of equipment, usually found in hospital eye departments. An OCT scan can help detect treatable eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration sooner. It can also help detect glaucoma up to four years in advance.

The OCT scan is in addition to a thorough eye test, during which the optometrist uses a range of clinical tests and procedures to measure the quality of someone’s vision and the health of their eyes. The store also provides complex contact lens fitting as well as other contact lens services.
