The late Joe Fallon, Ballyglass, Lanesboro, Roscommon
Sudden illness leading to an untimely death always stuns a community and the news of the death on Friday, June 27 at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar of Joe Fallon, Ballyglass brought a great disbelief to the community.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Rita and his son Joe Joe. Born and reared in Ballyglass, Joe was always a home bird as he never went too far away to work but took jobs locally while tending to his family land – indeed he worked in 1971 on the changing of the bridge in Lanesboro from the wooden Bailey bridge to the concrete span we know today.
Joe and his late wife Rita were recognised as wonderful dancers. Indeed the skill in the art of dancing was not lost on Joe as he glided across the floor at many dances countrywide, his presence and love of dancing was infectious on all that attended those dances. His immaculate dress attire always stood a man with a real flair for style.

Joe was a man with a quick mind and word and he was well-known as a man who would always stand and chat with friend and stranger alike.
Joe loved to reminisce on old times in the area and the fun that was always had on the nights out. He had an extremely wide circle of friends countrywide and locally as can be seen in the condolences on RIP.ie who are greatly saddened by his passing.
Joe’s remains reposed at Smyth’s Funeral on Sunday evening, June 29 followed by his removal to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballyleague. Following Mass of the Resurrection on Monday his remains were interred in Cloontuskert Cemetery.
To his sons Sean and Kenneth, his daughters Helena and Shirley, daughters-in-law Helen and Rita, grandchildren, James, Joe, Shaun, Érin, Leah, Isobel, Michael and Ryan, extended family and friends we extend our heartfelt sympathy.
