Mullingar Hospital complete report

Parents of Longford woman Bryonny Sainsbury vow to continue to fight

The parents of Bryonny Sainsbury, the 25-year-old Newtownforbes woman who died from a serious brain injury, will continue to fight on behalf of their child.

Alison and Chris Sainsbury lost their daughter after she was crushed by a horse on August 26, 2021.
After years of delay a Mullingar hospital report on the incident was finally published.
“We saw the review team last Monday (July 22), it was published for us the week before that,” Alison told the Leader, “It shows the complete and utter failure of the system.”

The inquest into last February returned a verdict of 'medical misadventure'.
Bryonny, of Briskil, Newtownforbes, died from her injuries in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin five days later, after originally being treated at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

“We were told in the inquest that Bryonny should still be here, that her injury was not life threatening, that it was the lack of care. How do they expect you to comprehend that,” the distraught mother said.
Since the February inquest Bryonny’s family have been waiting for the finalisation of the review.
This review was undertaken by an internal review team on behalf of Mullingar Hospital: “It acknowledged that there was a total lack of following protocol.”

Alison Sainsbury says she will continue to battle for her daughter: “We will just continue to fight, we shouldn't have to continue that fight, but we have no other choice, because the system doesn't give you any other choice.”
