This project emanated from a discussion that took place at a meeting of The Dromard Area Men’s Shed in 2018. They have their ‘Shed’ on the site of the ‘Latin School’ where they were chatting one day about derelict buildings close to their Headquarters.
Being aware of the rich educational heritage that exists on this site they felt assured these buildings could be utilised to give expression to this history.

They were confident that these old buildings could be restored and rejuvenated so as to preserve important aspects of our local heritage for posterity. They were also convinced that this was a project where they could put their collective energy and expertise to good use.

The idea was then brought forward to the local Community Centre Committee who are responsible for all activities on the site. There was no problem getting ‘the Green Light’ and indeed the project received enthusiastic support from the local community as well. This area has a great reputation for its ‘can do’ attitude and testament to this fact are the many facilities that have already been put in place down through the years with a large amount of voluntary effort.

A committee was put in place to move the project forward. Advice was sought from Longford County Council and The Department of Rural and Community Affairs. The committee is indebted to both for their invaluable advice and financial support over the last six years since the project’s inception.
