Woman seriously injured in road collision involving teenage male driver in Westmeath

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision

Five people have been sent to hospital following a serious two-vehicle road collision over the weekend in Westmeath.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to a report of a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision on the N62 at Ballinahown, Co. Westmeath on Sunday 29th March 2026.
 
The collision, involving a car and a van, occurred at approximately 1pm.
 
The female driver of the van (aged in her 40’s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar for treatment of serious injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
 
The adult male driver of the car (aged in his late teens) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
 
The three male passengers of the car (aged in their 20’s) also attended Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for injuries.
 
The scene has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.
 
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
