A church spire in Co Clare fell to the ground after a lightning strike in the early hours of Sunday morning, December 22.
Emergency services were alerted around 3.45am, where there were reports of the spire of Ruan church on fire after a lightning strike, which left the village without electricity.

Local fire services tackled the blaze and there was no interior damage, there was however electrical damage.

While attending the scene, the fire services were alerted to a house fire nearby which was understood to be caused by lightning.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: "Gardaí were made aware of a fire which occurred at the church in Ruan, Co Clare in the early hours of this morning Sunday, December 22.
Fire services attended the scene and managed the fire which has now been extinguished.
No criminal offences disclosed."
