'I couldn’t believe it' - Sheer joy as lotto winner plans splurge on family for Christmas

Three women who won big in National Lottery games claim their prizes

'I couldn’t believe it' - Sheer joy as lotto winner plans splurge on family for Christmas
Cheques were flying out the door of National Lottery HQ this afternoon, November 4, as players from Tipperary, Cork and Dublin claimed prizes they had won recently in the main Lotto draw, Scratch Card and Lotto 5-4-3-2-1 game.
First in the door was a woman from Templemore won €125,000 in the Lotto 5-4-3-2-1 game by matching five of the six winning numbers on a €1 Quick Pick ticket purchased at Lidl Templemore, Co. Tipperary, from Wednesday, 23rd October draw.

Speaking on her win, the woman explains: “I was doing the usual weekly shop in Lidl, and I threw in a Quick Pick ticket before paying for the groceries. I didn’t look at it until the following day, it was just sitting at the end of my handbag.
"When I went to check the ticket the following day, I really had to look at the numbers a couple of times - I even checked the dates, I was sure I had the wrong numbers for the wrong draw.”
Her husband laughs: “I was asleep, and she came in to tell me that she’d won big money. She woke me up and ruined my night's sleep!”
The pair have said they plan to let the news settle before deciding how to use their winnings for their future.
A Cork woman also claimed her fantastic prize of €56,625 after matching five numbers plus the bonus on Wednesday, October 23's Lotto draw.
The player, who purchased her winning ticket online, revealed how she plays the same numbers every week.  She said: “I got the email that night after the draw, I couldn’t believe it. I’ve been playing the same numbers for years, and this is the most I've ever won.
"It will be so nice to treat my family with Christmas coming up, and I might even splurge on a new handbag or holiday away somewhere for myself too.”
A Dublin woman collected the top prize of €50,000 on a Bingo Multiplier scratch card, purchased in Centra, Thomas St., Dublin 8.
The Dublin winner said: “I only ever buy scratch cards as gifts every now and then, and I just decided I’d buy myself one while I was getting ready for my holidays. I thought I’d won €500, and I was delighted with that, it was a nice boost for my trip.
"At the time, I was sitting outside the takeaway, and I just double-checked the card, and that’s when I realised that it was €50,000, not €500. It was insane, I couldn’t believe it!”.
The Dublin player hopes to put her fortunes towards purchasing a home, and possibly a new car since her current one is beginning to breakdown on her.

Nearly thirty cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to various good causes in areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage, and the Irish language.
In total, more than €6.5 billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 37 years ago.
In 2023 alone, €227.9 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
