Man and woman arrested as part of murder investigation in Co Tipperary

A man and woman have been arrested as part of a murder investigation into the death of an elderly mother-of-five in Co Tipperary.

Gardai said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Josephine (Josie) Ray, whose funeral was held on Friday morning.

She was found at her home at St Joseph’s Park, Nenagh on Sunday afternoon.

Two people, a man and woman aged in their 50s, were arrested on Friday in relation to the investigation.

They have been detained at Garda stations in the south under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the probe and an incident room has been established at Nenagh Garda Station.

A Garda family liaison officer has been assigned to support relatives of the deceased woman.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the St Joseph’s Park area of Nenagh between 8pm on Saturday and midday on Sunday.
